Payment Gateway & PSP Integration Services

Every failed transaction is lost revenue and a trust hit. Hurain Technologies designs and builds payment integration layers — from single PSP connections to full payment orchestration hubs — for fintechs, digital platforms, and marketplaces that need reliable, reconcilable, multi-currency and multi-rail payment flows, including crypto on/off-ramps.

Overview

What payment gateway & psp integration services actually involves

Payment infrastructure is judged almost entirely on what happens in the failure cases — the declined card that should have been retried on a different acquirer, the settlement file that doesn't quite match the ledger at month-end, the customer in a market where the PSP you integrated doesn't support their preferred local payment method. A checkout that works when everything goes right is table stakes; the actual engineering problem is building a payment layer that degrades gracefully and recovers automatically when something inevitably doesn't go right.

That's the lens we build through: routing logic that knows which PSP is currently performing best for a given card type and geography, retry logic that distinguishes a genuinely declined transaction from a transient failure worth retrying, and reconciliation that treats a mismatch as an exception to investigate rather than something a human re-checks by hand every single day.

The Challenge

Problems we see teams struggling with

High transaction failure and decline rates

Poor PSP routing and retry logic silently loses revenue on every failed or declined transaction.

Manual reconciliation overhead

Finance teams spend days manually matching PSP settlement reports against internal ledgers.

Limited payment method coverage

Missing local payment methods and currencies caps conversion in new markets.

No unified view across multiple PSPs

Operating multiple PSPs without a central orchestration layer makes routing, reporting, and risk management inconsistent.

FX cost leakage on cross-border transactions

Without FX-aware routing, businesses absorb worse conversion rates and hidden markup on every cross-border transaction than necessary.

Checkout abandonment from unsupported local methods

Requiring a card when local users expect a wallet, bank transfer, or QR payment method caps conversion before checkout even begins.

Our Approach

How Hurain Technologies solves it

Payment orchestration & routing

Smart routing across multiple PSPs based on cost, success rate, and geography, with automated failover.

PSP & payment method integration

Cards, bank transfers, wallets, QR payments, and local payment methods integrated behind a single API.

Cross-border & multi-currency rails

FX-aware payment flows, local acquiring, and cross-border settlement built for global operators.

Crypto on/off-ramp integration

Fiat-to-crypto and crypto-to-fiat payment rails integrated into existing checkout and wallet flows.

Automated reconciliation

Ledger-matching engines that reconcile PSP settlement files against internal transactions automatically, flagging exceptions only.

Payment hub development

A central payment hub giving finance and product teams one dashboard across every PSP and rail.

Local payment method expansion

Adding region-specific rails — bank transfers, QR payments, mobile wallets — so checkout matches what customers in each market actually expect to use.

Smart routing works by continuously scoring each PSP's real-time performance — approval rate by card BIN range and geography, latency, and cost — and selecting the best-performing route for each transaction rather than sending everything through a single default provider. When a transaction fails, the retry logic distinguishes between a hard decline (insufficient funds, expired card) that shouldn't be retried and a soft decline or timeout that's worth an automatic retry through an alternate PSP, which alone typically recovers a meaningful share of transactions that would otherwise be lost.

Reconciliation automation works by ingesting each PSP's settlement file, normalizing it against a common transaction schema, and matching it line-by-line against your internal ledger. The goal isn't to automate away finance's judgment — it's to make sure a human only looks at the genuine exceptions (a settlement that doesn't match any known transaction, a fee that doesn't match the expected rate card) instead of re-verifying thousands of transactions that already reconcile cleanly.

Use Cases

Where payment gateway & psp integration services gets used

Multi-PSP checkout orchestration

A single checkout API that routes across multiple PSPs behind the scenes, improving approval rates without the product team managing multiple integrations.

Cross-border marketplace payouts

FX-aware payment flows that settle sellers or partners across multiple countries and currencies from a single payment hub.

Subscription and recurring billing

Retry logic and dunning management tuned specifically for failed recurring charges, which have different failure patterns than one-time checkout.

Crypto-to-fiat checkout options

Adding stablecoin or crypto payment options alongside cards and bank transfers behind one unified checkout experience.

Finance team reconciliation automation

Replacing spreadsheet-based settlement matching with an automated ledger-matching engine that surfaces only genuine exceptions.

Local payment method rollout

Adding region-specific rails when expanding into a new market where card-only checkout would cap conversion.

Proof

Results we've delivered

Client Result

A cross-border marketplace needed to cut checkout failure rates across 12 markets. Hurain Technologies built a payment orchestration layer with smart PSP routing and automatic retries, reducing transaction failure rate from 9.2% to 2.1% and increasing reconciled settlement accuracy to 99.98%.

Process

How an engagement runs

  1. 1

    Payment stack audit

We review current PSPs, failure rates, and reconciliation pain points.

  2. 2

    Orchestration architecture design

Routing rules, failover logic, and rail selection mapped to your markets and volume.

  3. 3

    Integration & tokenization build

PSP connections, wallet integrations, and secure tokenization implemented and tested.

  4. 4

    Reconciliation automation

Ledger-matching rules configured against your accounting and reporting systems.

  5. 5

    Go-live & monitoring

Phased rollout with real-time transaction monitoring and alerting.

Engagement Models

How we structure the work

Single PSP integration

A focused integration with one payment provider, fixed-price and scoped, for teams that need one rail done well before expanding further.

Full orchestration hub build

A dedicated pod engagement building the complete routing, reconciliation, and multi-PSP orchestration layer for platforms handling meaningful volume.

Reconciliation automation sprint

A focused 3-4 week engagement to replace manual settlement matching with an automated ledger-matching pipeline.

Post-launch optimization retainer

Ongoing tuning of routing rules and PSP performance analytics as your transaction mix and markets evolve.

Pitfalls

Mistakes we see teams make

Retrying every failed transaction the same way

Blindly retrying a hard decline wastes a customer's time and can trigger fraud flags; only soft failures should be retried automatically.

Treating reconciliation as a monthly finance task

Waiting until month-end to reconcile settlement data means discrepancies are weeks old before anyone notices them, by which point root-causing them is far harder.

Hardcoding a single PSP as the only rail

Platforms that integrate one PSP directly into checkout logic face a costly rewrite when they eventually need a second provider for redundancy or new markets.

Ignoring FX cost transparency

Cross-border businesses that don't actively route for FX cost often absorb thousands of dollars a month in avoidable conversion markup without realizing it.

Glossary

Key terms explained

PSP (Payment Service Provider)
A company that processes payments on behalf of a merchant, handling the connection to card networks and banking rails.
Acquiring bank
The bank that holds a merchant's account and receives funds from card transactions on the merchant's behalf.
Chargeback
A forced transaction reversal initiated by a cardholder's bank, typically due to a dispute, fraud claim, or non-delivery of goods.
Tokenization
Replacing sensitive card data with a non-sensitive token for storage and processing, so raw card numbers never need to touch your core systems.
3-D Secure
An authentication protocol (like Verified by Visa) that adds a cardholder verification step to reduce fraud and shift chargeback liability.
Settlement file
A report a PSP provides listing the transactions it has processed and the funds it will transfer, used as the basis for reconciliation.
